PROPOSAL

To formulate mi FMP, I want to emulate to those who, during centuries, have known how to used the art, not only as a aesthetic element, but as a container and promoter of meanings; this is, the Christian Church.
I propose a glance to the Christian liturgy as an effective publicity tool, due to the fact that it’s used to spread a message.
I’ll use one artistic format used by the Church: the triptych.
One of the negative aspects I found in religious societies it’s the fact that they don’t give to the individual the ability of election. They don’t believe in the kindness of the human being if this is not part of a religious doctrine. And that’s why the sinner concept is so important to them.
My objective is to take an element typical of the religious culture as the triptych, and give it a more humanist content.
People are able to differentiate between goodness and evilness. We shouldn’t need any organism to find that difference; but if we need it, it’s because we’re indoctrinated.
My main inspiration for this project is the fantastic “Garden of the Earthly Delights”, a painting which symbolism is so extreme and unconventional that, after centuries of studies, the art critics haven’t agreed about what is its real meaning, what the painter was trying to communicate.
The content of my triptych will be some 2008 events ( I think a have to limit the time).
Every panel of the triptych will have a different meaning. But instead of hell, heaven, the Creation (as they are the usual elements ), I will select them as reflection, hope and despair. This haven’t been established yet.
I’m not going to try to recreate conventional art, because I believe I have to try to express myself as a graphic designer. That’s why the piece will have the aspect of a big collage that will be created from different scenes and techniques.
That triptych will be my main element.
I’ve thought in the relevancy that the place in the exhibition will have for the piece. Usually these kind of work arts are placed close to the altar. It will be very important the place in the exhibition, the lights around it and the audio.
There is a second part in my project: an interpretation book. The idea came when looking at the real “Garden of the Earthly Delights” . When facing such a fantastic masterpiece, you’re overwhelmed by the curiosity , the ignorance of the symbolism and the hidden meaning of all those fantastic characters.
That book will collect the different scenes shown on the triptych and will relation them with the real events in which they’re based on.
I’d like to create an appropriated font. I’ve observed that there’s a new trend towards to used a mix of serif and sans serif fonts, and I’ve thought I’ll try to create a unique font that includes both serif and sans serif elements.
